Pinlight Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026
Overview
Pinlight is a photo location mapping app that reads your Photos library to display geotagged photos on a map. Your privacy is fundamental to how the app is designed.
What Pinlight Accesses
- Photo library — Pinlight reads your albums and photo metadata (GPS, camera info, timestamps) to display them on a map. Photos are accessed via Apple's PhotoKit framework and are never copied or uploaded.
- Photo content — Pinlight analyzes photos on-device for color palette extraction and scene classification. This processing happens entirely on your device.
What Pinlight Does NOT Do
- No data collection — Pinlight does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers.
- No analytics — No usage tracking, no crash reporting services, no third-party SDKs.
- No network requests — Pinlight does not connect to the internet, except when you tap "Open in Maps" (which hands off to Apple Maps or Google Maps) or "Send Feedback" (which opens your email app).
- No accounts — No sign-up, no login, no user profiles.
Data Storage
Notes you write and cached metadata (camera info, color palettes, scene labels) are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data never leaves your device and is deleted if you uninstall the app.
Third-Party Services
Pinlight uses Apple MapKit to display maps. Map tile requests go to Apple's servers under Apple's own privacy policy. Pinlight does not send your photo data, location, or any personal information to Apple or any other third party.
